Ethiopian Heritage Coffee

Kamisse Coffee

A coffee shaped by the ancient Oromo traditions of Jimma, rich organic soils, and centuries-old brewing customs unique to southern Ethiopia.

The Legends of Jimma

According to folklore, a powerful sorcerer and queen named Makhore led a number of Oromo communities to Jimma. Makhore carried a “Boku” which, when placed on the ground, would tremor the earth and make mankind fearful.

The legend says that she used this “Boku” to drive the local Kaffa people across the Gojeb River. Both Jimma and Kaffa regions have long claimed the origin of coffee.

The Oromo people of Jimma form a unique Islamic-influenced subculture that continues to shape traditional coffee brewing and drinking customs passed down through generations.

Centuries of Coffee Tradition

Farmers in the Jimma region have been harvesting coffee the same way for nearly a thousand years. Located in the Limu-Gente zone of southern Ethiopia, coffee trees grow in organic-rich soils beneath native shade trees.

A Bright and Refined Cup

Kamasi coffees are known for their milder acidity and bright, clean cups that awaken the palate to subtler flavors and aromas distinctive to this region.

Kamasi captures all aspects of Jimma’s history, geography, and coffee heritage in a cup that is impossible to replicate anywhere else in the world.
