Guji Coffee

A coffee rooted in Oromo heritage, high-altitude forests, mineral-rich soil, and centuries-old farming traditions.

The Cradle of Oromo Heritage

The Oromo people of Guji believe their region to be the cradle of Oromo culture and tradition. Guji’s Oromos are thought to be descendants of a man named Gujo, whose family and grandchildren, according to legend, raised cattle in the region.

Guji is also a mineral-rich region of Ethiopia, where gold, precious stones, and other sought-after minerals are found. Southern Ethiopia’s Guji region is a secluded, gorgeously forested, and in many ways unexplored part of the nation.

As you travel along Guji’s rural roads, beautiful green forests roll gently across hills and valleys as far as the eye can see, creating one of Ethiopia’s most breathtaking landscapes.

Coffee Farming Rooted in Tradition

Embedded in their culture is coffee farming with unique ceremonies and historic farming practices that remain unchanged for centuries. Coffee is more than a crop in Guji — it is a way of life deeply woven into community, family, and tradition.

The high altitude of this region allows the beans to mature slowly and absorb minerals from the fertile soil, resulting in exceptionally nuanced flavors.

A Unique Ethiopian Coffee Experience

Guji coffee offers a unique mouthfeel, allowing every sip to reveal a new nuance of emphasis that is exciting yet sublime. Known for its bright finish and higher acidity, it stands apart from other Ethiopian coffees with remarkable complexity and elegance.
